From the idea to maintain and continue in an artistic manner a century’s old tradition emerged a unique product.
The company „Wolkenstricker“ was founded by Eva Dietrich in 1979.
It is her aim, with a high sense of responsibility, to ensure that the art of hand knitting and embroidery are protected and further developed in the future.
Based on the careful examination of wool, natural colours and the long tradition of old hand knitting patterns Eva Dietrich began to create precious jackets, which are not just uniquely beautiful, but also comfortable and with an enduring style.
Even today the fine natural materials still stem to a large extent from own production.
Pattern for pattern and model for model they are developed in the Bergwieser workshop and artistically finished through free hand embroidery.
The second generation is now already continuing the tradition.
Eva’s daughter Konstanze Hofinger develops since years new models and embroidery designs for Wolkenstricker.
Exciting and innovative Wolkenstricker interprets the subject of hand knitting based on a long tradition and the feeling for the fashionable modern styles.
From the skilled playing with structures, finishes, materials and meanings precious artworks are produced of a high emotional value.
Structures, which go beyond sophisticated two-dimensional patterns to the third dimension for a perfect fit and finish through artistic embroidery.
Materials which are held in the finest natural fibres and to a large extent stem from own production and meanings, which touch and delight.
Therefore, Wolkenstricker models frequently arouse the passion of their owners, who so very much love the consistency in style and wearing comfort, for collecting.
The treasures of Wolkenstricker can be purchased worldwide in exclusive specialist fashion stores.
Traditional costumes and fashion, passed on from generation to generation and improved.
In the farmhouse, in farming appliances and in the traditional costumes of the past we find a quality, which is missing with our fast living consumer goods.
It is the result of centuries of development, which allowed it to develop to maturity in its usefulness and simple beauty. A quality which we often miss today.
A Wolkenstricker jacket is produced with love and without any time pressure. Carefully and masterly created by qualified knitters and embroidery experts. A luxury which can emerge less from material motivation than from ideal appreciation.
Thus, the timelessness of noble handicraft art and the feeling for the current Zeitgeist are combined.
The result is a fashion inspired by the elements of traditional costumes.
The choice of qualities. Based on the respective properties we use the right material.
Australian sheep sweat just as little as Icelandic sheep freeze, as their wool functions like a natural air conditioning system.
Depending on the requirements it insulates or warms. When spun and knitted the woollen fibres also have these regulating properties.
Therefore, the natural appearance of the materials is just as important for us as their gentle processing to light qualities with pleasant wearing properties.
We use selected high-quality and natural raw fibres, e.g. natural mixed Merino sheep’s wool, light Peruvian Pima cotton, delicate shimmering mulberry silk.
Mixtures of these crude fibres, such as 71% new wool, 20% silk and 9% Ramie, the oldest form of linen, are spun in own production. An adaptable and robust quality in summer as well as in winter.
For summer freshness with noble shine we like to choose a composition made of 67% cotton and 33% viscose.
Feathery-light super kid mohair supplements several winter qualities.
We merely have cashmere in our range as an admixture for a soft touch as the useful life of pure cashmere wool itself as a long-fibre yarn is limited, a fact which does not correspond with our ideas of long life and sustainability.
Structures and patterns, are more than just decoration. They are the backbone of each jacket.
The sophisticated knitted patterns of the Wolkenstricker jackets are an elaborate process to bring substance and stability into the knitted fabric.
What is managed with just darts, padding and quilting in tailoring, is created in knitting through the skilled use of selected patterns.
In addition, there is the optical effect of the knitting pattern, which can positively underpin the proportions.
The W-button, the clear identification feature of a real Wolkenstricker jacket.
The exclusive five hole Wolkenstricker button is unique and protected under patent law.
When sewn onto the fastener bar with a colour-coordinated yarn the letter „W“ is drawn.
The W-button is individually coordinated to the respective Wolkenstricker model. It is available in brass and brass silver-plated, wood, coconut and horn as well as in mother-of-pearl
The secret of the colours. Harmoniously coordinated to each other, as flowers on a field, these are the colours of the old traditional costumes.
The natural fibres were dyed using herbal colours, which as opposed to the chemical colours, combine directly with the fibre.
The varied structure of the fibres produces the finest shades in the light.
Our range of embroidery yarns covers numerous natural materials with the most varied colour shades, thicknesses and conditions.
These also include many which are dyed using herbal colours.
We draw from a collection of around 40 different qualities, with respectively up to 70 colours.
In own production we dye the majority of our embroidery yarns and can thus follow the development of the fashionable colours.
100% Hand-crafted tradition and experience for a unique original.
„Wolkenstricker models are produced from the knowledge of traditional knitting art and a feeling for the fashionable modern styles.
Produced completely by hand, each blueprint becomes an individually created original.
The rhythm of the hand determines a lively appearance and creates regularity, not standard measurements.“
